The Chrysanthemum Show at Luthy Botanical Gardens conservatory is on display now through Saturday.  Hours 10 am - 5 pm.  Admission is $2 for  adults and $1 for children.  For more information, call 686-3362 or click HERE.


On display now at the Peoria Art Guild is Pet Portraits, an invitational show of artists who specialize in painting pets.   This show explores how the relationship between humans and their animals have been artistically expressed over time.  The show runs through November 15. The horror classic Frankenstein will be performed Friday and Sturday nights at 7:30 p.m. in Pritchard Theatre at Eureka College. Cost is $7 or $3 for students. Call 467-6363 for more information.

The Peoria Jaycess first Halloween Masquerade Ball will be held at the Packard Plaza from 8 pm to Midnight Friday night.  Tickets are $25 per person and are available at the Costume Trunk on Main St. or Party World in University Plaza and include appetizers and a voucher for one drink.  A cash bar will also be available.  Proceeds will benefit the Peoria Play House Childrens Museum.  You must be 21 to attend the ball.


The Peoria Rivermen take on the Quad Cities Flames on Friday beginning at 7 pm in Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center.  They play the Manitoba Moose on Sunday beginning at 5 pm which is also Family Day - get hot dogs, Cokes and Kitchen Cooked Chips for just $1 each beginning an hour before game time plus kids 12 & under get in for just $1 (upper bowl seating).  There's also going to be inflatable games, balloon art and face painting plus a post-game skate with the Rivermen players.  Also, receive a complimentary Journal Star souvenir poster after the game. On Friday, there's a special Halloween Live at the Five Spot featuring Southside Cindy & the Slip-Tones plus a costume contest with prizes from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria.  Admission ranges from $3-$10.  For more information, call 674-6822.


Spider Hill at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe is in its final weekend. The event includes the Haunted Express, Massacre Mansion, Trail of Terror and the Boo Barn. Hours are 7 - 11 pm each night. The 9th Annual Gertrude Kelley Hearts of Hope Art Auction & Celebration will be held on Saturday at the Country Club of Peoria. Featuring artwork from numerous local artists, cocktails & silent auction are from 6  to 7:30 pm followed by dinner & live auction. Art media include oil on canvas, sculpture, ceramics, photography, watercolor, jewelry, and more.  Reservations are $100 per person and may be made by calling the Mental Health Association of Illinois Valley office at 692-1766.

The History and Craft of Whiskey is equal parts lecture, tasting of some of the world's finest whiskey, plus all of your favorite Irish drinking songs this Saturday at 7 pm at the GAR Hall in downtown Peoria. Lecture topics include:  What is the art of fermentation and its role in Peoria History? Who were the Whiskey Barons of Peoria? What are the differences between Scottish single malt whisky, Irish whiskey, and American bourbon?  Musical Guests will be The Roundstone Buskers, Historian Brian "Fox" Ellis and special guest, Friar Tuck.  Tickets are $25 per person.  Call 689-8000 for more information and reservations.

Fun, Film & Frolic will be held beginning at 6:30 pm at the Apollo Theater in downtown Peoria will feature wine tasting, music of the 1930s and '40s, a showing of The Thomas Crown Affair, and a Dress as Your Favorite Artist or Work of Art! competition with celebrity judges. All proceeds will go to the Apollo Theater. Admission is $5.

Comedian Robert Klein is in concert at the Jukebox Comedy Club at 7 pm 9:30 pm on Saturday and 7 pm on Sunday.  On the short list of the great stand-up comics, he's had  8 HBO Specials, over 100 appearances on the Tonight Show and Letterman, and is a Grammy and Tony award nominee.  His show is rated  PG-18.  Tickets are $26 if paid with credit card or $25 if paid with cash and are on sale now at the Jukebox Comedy Club Box Office, by calling 673-5853 or online HERE.

11th Annual Sports Auction & Card Show will take place on Sunday from 10 am - 3 pm with a  Live Auction at 2 pm at the Riverplex in downtown Peoria.  Admission is $1, kids 12 & under are free.  Sports card vendors will be set up to buy, sell, or trade their sports cards and collectibles. The live auction will include autographed sports memorabilia.
