All Saints Greek Orthodox Church will host its annual Mediterranean Food Festival from 11 am - 8 pm daily today through Saturday. Menu items include roasted lamb, athenian chicken, spinach pie, pork shish-ka-bob, gyros plus other appetizers too. All dinners include a greek salad, rice, green beans & dinner roll. On Friday, the Contemporary Arts Center presents Live at the Five Spot featuring the Robin Crowe Band (country, blues) at 5:30 pm. Admission is $7 for CAC members and $10 for non-members. Also on Friday, the CAC presents Salsa at CAC, a Latin Dance Latin dance lesson and open dancing from 8:30-12:30 pm. The Peoria Jazz AllStars Gala fundriaser will be held at the Holiday Inn City Center Friday beginning at 6:30 pm. The Peoria Jazz AllStars is an auditioned all-city "big band" comprised of dedicated students from the four public high schools: Manual, Peoria High, Richwoods and Woodruff. The Riverboat Tales Tall and True Cruise will board the Spriit of Peoria beginning at 6:30 pm, dinner is at 7 pm and the cruise runs from 7:30 - 9:30 pm. Storyteller Brian "Fox" Ellis and Singer/Songwriter Barry Cloyd created Prairie Folklore Theatre to entertain and to educate the curious about the rich layers of history found in the Midwestern prairie, spinning stories and songs together to create musical theatre. The Venue will host an artists reception for Morgan Elser on Friday from 7 pm - 10 pm. Elser's work specializes in mixed media and bronze sculpture. Also, Peoria Native and folk musician Rory Toelle, will play. On Saturday, the Venue will host a night featuring an art exhibit and poetry reading from published ICC student authors/artists. The Untamed Shrews are back by popular demand and as wild as ever at the Jukebox Comedy Club. This will be their only Peoria appearance in 2009. | Pekin Fire Days is this weekend. It includes the Fire Fest on Friday from 5-8 pm at the Pekin Downtown Courthouse Square and the Fire Parade on Saturday at 10 featuring antique fire trucks, fire units, groups, vehicles and fire engines parade through the downtown streets to the courthouse. There will be free entertainment & kids activities plus food vendors and an open house on Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm at Fire Station #1 in Pekin, located at 3232 Court Street. The Fort Crevecoeur Spring Rendevous will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on Friday through Sunday at Fort Creve Coeur. Visitors will experience a way of life from 1680 to 1850, involving traders and American Indians of this area, through encampments, dancers, live music and demonstrations.
