The 2010 Illinois Music Educators Association Convention takes place this weekend at the Peoria Civic Center with several scheduled events open to the general public.  The "Young Composers and Their Music" showcase concert will be held at the Peoria Civic Center Theater beginning at 3 pm today. Admission is free.  The IMEA All Conference Drum Circle will be held in the Peoria Civic Center's Triangle Lobby from 11 am - 12 pm on Saturday. This event is open and free to the public. And t he IMEA All-State Concert will be held in the Peoria Civic Center Arena on Saturday beginning at 1 pm and the Honors Concert beginning at 3:15 pm. General admission tickets are $5 at the door or available in advance at the Peoria Civic Center Box Office. Tickets are good for both All-State and Honors Concerts.

Comedian Henry Phillips will perform at the Jukebox Comedy Club this weekend. Showtimes are Thursday at 8 pm during the "Pro-Am Showcase" and Friday and Saturday at 8 and 10:30 pm. Tickets are $14 except for the Thursday show and the Friday late show which are $10. The show is Rated - R (mild). Call 673-5853 for reservations.

State of Mind will perform at the Contemporary Arts Center's Live at the Five Spot Friday from 5:30-7:30 pm. Admission is $7 for members, $10 for non-members, $6 for student & senior members and $9 for student & senior non-members 16 & younger $3. Students require valid school ID & seniors are 65 & older.   Soulful Sunday at the Contemporary Arts Center presents Gumbo for the Soul featuring family oriented entertainment with stand up comedy, special performances and R&B and gospel choral music on Sunday from 3 - 5 pm. Admission is $5 for members and $8 for non-members.

Bar Louie will host a Back to the Sixties event on Saturday at 6:30 pm. Turn up in your grooviest Sixties Costume. The Sun Foundation Winter Warming committee presents the annual Winter Warming Benefit for the Children's Program Fund on Saturday from 5 - 8 pm at the Zambezi River Lodge at the Peoria Zoo. This event features a wine tasting, a micro brews & imported beers tasting, plus food and desserts. Live music will be provided by Ken and Paul Osborne and the Suzuki School of Music.
