The 44th Annual Morton Pumpkin Festival continues in downtown Morton on tonight (Thursday) from 4 - 10 pm, Friday from Noon - 10 pm and Saturday from 8 am - Midnight. Admission is free. Barn 2 Dinner Theatre opens with their new show, Not Now Darling, tonight (Thursday) through November 7 with performances Thursdays through Sundays each week. Lyfe on Water Street, an open mic for poetry, runs tonight (Thursday) from 7 - 9 pm at the Contemporary Art Center where you can come share your talent or just watch. The CEO of the European-American Business Council, Michael Maibach, will discuss his work on President Ronald Reagan's Commission on Industrial Competitiveness in the 1980s on Friday from 10 am-Noon in the Cerf Center at Eureka College. The German American Central Society and the Peoria Park District will host the Peoria Oktoberfest this weekend to promote German culture and heritage of Central Illinois. The Trunk to Treasure Rummage Sale will take place in the Glen Oak Amphitheatre parking lot on Saturday from 8 am - 2 pm. Clean out your closets and rent a parking space to sell your wares. Bikers Against Street Hunger, a charitable fundraiser presented by the Coalition of Central Illinois Motorcyclists, will hold their annual event B.A.S.H. at Town and Country Bowl Saturday at 2010 W. Forrest Hill in Peoria, IL, where the bikes line up for the motorcycle parade. Sign up for the annual bike parade begins at 9:30 am with departure at 11 am to the Kingston Mines Park at Kingston Mines, IL. A $5 cash donation is all it takes to participate in a fun-filled day including a free bike show, music from 11:30 am by Josh Means, entertainment by Illusionist/Stage hypnotist: Ace Randal, a 50/50 drawing, food and refreshments, a live auction around noon.
The Peoria Zoo Run Run will begin on Saturday at 8 am followed by the 1/4 mile Youth Run at 8:45 am. All participants will receive free admission to the Zoo following the race. Early Bird registrants will be guaranteed a t-shirt. There will be food, door prizes, and a visit from the Peoria Zoo mascot "Crash" the rhino. The Junior League of Peoria will host its 2nd Annual Truck Stop on Saturday, from 10- 3pm at Northwoods Mall. The one-day event is an opportunity for families to experience unique vehicles they would not typically get to see up close. In addition to vehicle displays, this event will feature a variety of live demonstrations from the City of Peoria, along with a raffle to win a child's motorized car. The 2010 PARC 'N' Play Grand Cruise-In will take place from 3 - 9 pm at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie. The Grand Cruise-in will feature classic cars and motorcycle plus food and fun for all ages with live musical entertainment, children's games, door prizes, 50/50 drawing, raffles and much more. Hippie Radio will do a live remote broadcast from the event. Admission is free to the public. Cost to enter into the cruise-in competition is $10 per vehicle (automobile or motorcycle). Animal Encounters: Snakes will take place at Forest Park Nature Center on Sunday from 1:30 - 2 pm. Feel the smooth scales of a snake slide through your hand, hear the hiss of a giant cockroach or get up close and personal with a tarantula. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Family Day will be held at the West Peoria Firehouse on Sunday from Noon -3 pm. The Ladies Auxiliary will hold a bake sale while the children enjoy activities related to fire equipment, trucks, etc. The West Peoria Fire Department is located on Waverly Ave. in West Peoria.
Flanagan House in Peoria will host the Herb Harvest Festival on Sunday from 1:30 - 3 pm. Chef Gina Edwards will do an herb based cooking demo at 2pm. The Illinois Central Jazz Train, directed by Larry Harms will perform at 7:15 Sunday in the Starting Gate Banquet Room in Landmark Recreation Center. The Central Illinois Jazz Society (CIJS) House Band will play during the first set at 6:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for Members and $7 Non-Members. Children 14 years and under are free with an adult.
