The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria s Department of Surgery and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Peoria Memorial Affiliate will host the third annual Breast Cancer Symposium at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Riverfront Conference Center today (Thursday) & Friday from 7 am to 4:30 pm. The Annual Rib Fest is Friday beginning at 5 pm and Saturday beginning at Noon on the Peoria riverfront. A Chili Cook Off will be part of the Rib Fest this year as well. Admission on Friday is $5 from 5 - 10 pm. There is no admission to the event on Saturday. Vendors, including rib & chili vendors, will be available plus live entertainment by Rewind, Brainchild, Patrick 'n Swayze, Mike & Joe and the Emmit-Nershi Band. Celebrate 100 years of Scouting in America at the W.D. Boyce Council's Centennial Camporee on Saturday at Comlara Park in Hudson, Illinois. Past, present and future Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers and Explorers are invited for a day of canoeing, fishing, BB guns, archery, historic displays, demonstrations, Civil War re-enactors, Scoutcraft, games, food vendors and more! The American Red Cross will kick-off Central Illinois' First Annual Livestrong Day at the East Peoria Festival Building on Saturday from 9 am - 1 pm. There will be a marrow registration and the American Red Cross will be attending to collect blood donations. The 43rd Annual Spoon River Drive will take place in Fulton County again this year the first two weekends in October. Enjoy the natural wonders of the Spoon River Valley as it flows from London Mills to the south and east where it joins the Illinois River near the southeastern corner of the County. Willett's Winery & Cellar in Manito will host a Murder Mystery on Saturday night presented by Upstage Productions. June Restaurant Chef Josh Adams and Executive Chef Mike Stephans from the Peoria Civic Center will feature some of their dessert creations at this year's Dining with Friends Dessert Finale benefiting the local HIV/ AIDS organization that serves people with HIV and/or AIDS. In honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, the 5th Annual Share "A Walk to Remember" begins at 10:45 am on Sunday at the Peoria RiverPlex. Check in and registration will be outside the Peoria River Plex from 10 -10:45 am along the River Front Walk. The walk begins at 11:15 am. Schlachtfest 2010, a traditional German Picnic, will be held from Noon - 8 pm at Hickory Grove Park on Sunday in the beautiful tree covered beergarden. The JDFR Walk to Cure Diabetes will take place at Glen Oak Park on Sunday beginning with check in at 11:30 am. The walk begins at 1 pm and is 3.5 miles in length. Bicycles, rollerblades, and pets are not permitted. Everyone who raises $100 or more will receive a Walk to Cure Diabetes T-shirt. The 2010 Memory Walk for Peoria will begin at Liberty Park on the Peoria Riverfront Sunday at 2 pm.
