The Luthy Botanical Gardens Annual Chrysanthemum Show runs from 10 am - 5 pm on Friday & Saturday and from Noon to 4 pm on Sunday. Pianist Joshua Russell will present a free CD release concert featuring all of the music from his recently released recording of Haitian music at 7:30 pm Friday at Dingeldine Music Center at Bradley University. The release entitled "Valses to VooDoo" will be available for purchase at the event. 50% of the proceeds from sales of the CD will be donated to the Holy Trinity Music School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. For the first time in more than a decade, Bradley Basketball will tip-off the start of the official practice season by hosting an hour-long Midnight Madness-style event, Hoopla on the Hilltop, in the University's new on-campus arena on Friday beginning at 9 pm. The basketball activity will be a featured event during Bradley University's Homecoming schedule and will include spotlighted introductions of the 2010-11 men's and women's basketball teams, a half court shot at $10,000 for a lucky contestant and games involving the current players and fans. Tickets are $5 for the general public and free for Bradley University students, faculty and staff.
In honor of breast cancer awareness month, stylists from It's All About Me Salon are holding a Cut-a-Thon to benefit the OSF Saint Francis Centers for Breast Health. The Wild JAM will be held in Peoria Civic Center Arena on Saturday from 9 am - 9 pm. Admission is free.  Nearly 2,000 cheerleaders and dancers will "take the stage" for the cheer and dance event where teams will compete for awards in their respective divisions and for overall Grand Champion awards. Featuring more than 100 cheer and dance teams from five states,  (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin), over 3,000 spectators are expected be on hand watch the competition.

Come watch machines built for the sole purpose of hurling a pumpkin as far as possible at the annual Punkin Chuckin Contest at the corner of Allentown and Springfield Rd. in rural Morton. The Junior League of Peoria will host a Murder Mystery Dinner at the historic Ballance-Herschel House on Saturday at 6:30 pm.
