The Garish Garden Show, which continues at Luthy Botanical Gardens from 10 am - 5 pm today (Thursday) through Saturday, will show you what NOT to do in your garden as they break out the pink flamingos and the garden gnomes in the Conservatory. The Neil Simon classic Barefoot in the Park concludes its run at the Barn 2 Dinner Theatre in Goodfield this weekend. Contemporary Arts Center's Live at the Five Spot will host Cobalt Canopy on Friday from 5:30 - 7:30 pm in the Preston Jackson Gallery. Admission for members is $7 and non-members are $10.

The Vagina Monologues will be presented at the Bradley University Michel Student Center Ballroom Friday and Saturday night beginning at 7 pm. Admission is $5 and proceeds will benefit the Center for the Prevention of Abuse. This production is part of a nation-wide campaign to stop violence against women, called V-Day. The tone of the play ranges from funny to awkward to heartbreaking, but the messages are to encourage female empowerment. It is intended for a mature audience. The Peoria Rivermen will take on the Manitoba Moose at the Peoria Civic Center (Carver) Arena Friday beginning at 7:05 pm.

Arrival (a Journey Tribute band) and Wanted (a tribute to the music of Bon Jovi) will perform at the Avanti's Dome (located at 3401 Griffin in Pekin) beginning at 8 pm on Friday night. The St. Patrick Society of Peoria is hosting the 20th Annual Jack Kenny 5K Run/Walk on Saturday at 9 am at Glen Oak Park in Peoria. Entry fee is $15 for early registration and $20 on race day. A presentation of awards is held immediately following the race and a post-race party will be held at Katie McButts on Knoxville. Adult basketball enthusiasts, register for the 5th Annual Easter Seals Shootout where up to 40 teams will participate at Eastside Center in East Peoria on Saturday with check-in at 7:30 am and the first game at 8 am. Cost is $80 per team with all proceeds benefiting Easter Seals locally in the Peoria and Bloomington facilities. The Mayor's Litter Committee will host a Litter Cleanup on Saturday from 9 -11 am in downtown Peoria. The event kicks off the litter campaign and will ensure that downtown is ready for the IHSA Boys Basketball State Finals that begin next Friday. The 2011 Easter Seals Telethon will be broadcast live from the Par A Dice Hotel in Peoria and Double Tree Hotel in Bloomington-Normal on WMBD 31 from 6 - 11 pm. The public is welcome to meet Easter Seals families, hear about our programs and services and meet the volunteers that raise funds throughout the year to support the families that are served by Easter Seals.
