The 27th Annual Arts in Education Spring Celebration is being held in the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza from 11am - 1:30 pm every weekday through May 25th. More than 12,000 students from over 110 schools in seven counties will perform, exhibit and demonstrate their talents in the fine and applied arts. The Illinois State Historical Society presents the 2012 Illinois History Symposium, "Contested Lands: 1763-1840" at the Embassy Suites in East Peoria today (Thursday) through Saturday. Live the life of a T-Rex or Triceratops using computer simulations at the "Be a Dinosaur" exhibit at Lakeview Museum (located at 1125 W. Lake Ave. in Peoria) daily through May 20th. The "Dinosaurs, Solve the Mysteries" Planetarium Show at Lakeview Museum (located at 1125 W. Red Green will be live at the Peoria Civic Center Theater on Friday at 7 pm. The Red Green Show was a television comedy airing in Canada from 1991 until 2006. In the show, Red Green is a self-proclaimed handyman who relies on duct tape as his secret weapon. This tour is a follow-up to the popular television series. "Coffee for a Cause" will be held at Thirty-Thirty Coffee Co. on Friday beginning at 7 pm. A benefit for Illinois Cancer Care Foundation, the event will have a speaker, live music, a silent auction and more. Admission is free, however donations are encouraged.

The Peoria Public Library will host a Grand Opening of the Lakeview Branch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday at 10 am. Pioneer Days will take place at Sommer Park on Sunday from 1 - 4 pm where you can experience firsthand the daily life of rural Peorians in the mid 19th century. Admission is $2 per person, age four and up. Activities take place at the homestead, barn, blacksmith shop and schoolhouse. This is an opportunity for scout and youth groups to learn about history.
