The 46th Annual Morton Pumpkin Festival will take place through Saturday in downtown Morton featuring lots of pumpkin food specialties. There will also be a carnival, live entertainment, a pumpkin pancake breakfast, a parade, the Pumpkin Idol contest, a business expo, craft fair,  10K/2 mile run/walk, bags tournament, pie eating competition, art & photography show plus much more. The Voices for Illinois Children will hold its 2012 Illinois Kids Count Symposium "Investing in Opportunities for Children Now" at the Peoria Civic Center on Friday from 9 am - noon. Community leaders and advocates will explore the impact of the budget crisis on Peoria children with a presentation, panel discussion and more. An Open Fishing Day from the well-stocked waters of Lake Davis will be held at Camp Wokanda (located at 620 E Boy Scout Rd. in Chillicothe) on Saturday from 9 - 11 am. Fish from the shore for free or rent a canoe for $5. Poles can be rented for $1. This program is catch and release only.
The 15th Annual Lobster Boil will be held on Saturday at the Hult Center (located at 5215 N. Knoxville in Peoria) with doors opening at 6 pm. Price is $100 per person and includes a full Lobster dinner with dessert. Tables of 10 and sponsorships are available. There will also be hundreds of silent auction items available. All proceeds benefit healthy living programs at the Hult Center.
A Sightseeing Cruise will take place on Saturday on the Spirit of Peoria with boarding at 12:30 pm and the cruise running from 1 - 2:30 pm. The 8th Annual Grand Cruise-In, PARC n' Play, will be held on Saturday at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie from 4 - 9 pm. See over 200 classic cars and enjoy food, raffles, live entertainment plus activities for kids. All proceeds from this event will benefit PARC programs for people with disabilities and their families.
