The
Central Illinois Herpetological Society will meet at Forest Park Nature
Center tonight (Thursday) at 7 pm featuring a speaker, raffles, announcements of
trips and exhibits and opportunities for hobbyists to interact with one another.
Admission is free. Membership to the CIHS is $20 per year which includes the
quarterly newsletter, Herp Alert. The Society meets the first Thursday every

Peoria
Historical Society's Abraham Lincoln and The Civil War Tour tells the
story of Lincoln's visits to Peoria, the Civil War troops and Camp Peoria & Camp
Lyon where they trained and will take place every Friday in August beginning at
10:30 am leaving from Kelleher's Irish Pub (located at 619 SW Water Street in
downtown Peoria). The Haunted Peoria Tour explores the darker side of
Peoria and takes you to places where strange sightings and legendary deaths have
been reported. The tour will take place every every Saturday through October beginning

Sightseeing Cruise will take place on Friday, Saturday & Sunday on the
Spirit of Peoria with boarding beginning at 1:30 pm and the cruise running from
2 - 3:30 pm. On Saturday only, there will also be a cruise from 11 am - 1:30 pm with

Peoria Riverfront Museum will host Science Rocks!, a Community Day to
Celebrate Peoria as a Place of Invention, on Saturday from 11 am - 4 pm. Learn
about current science taking place in Peoria and about the long history of
innovation in our community. Join scientists from the National Center for
Agricultural Utilization Research (the Ag Lab) with hands on demonstrations in
the museum lobby, plus learn about Peoria's role in the development of
penicillin in a talk by Dr. Stephen W. Peterson beginning at 4 pm. Also on
Saturday, learn about native fish species in the Illinois River Encounter
exhibit with the Feeding the Fish event from 3 - 3:30 pm where you can

Stargazing
at Northmoor at the Northmoor Observatory (located on the Donovan Golf
Course at 5805 N. Knoxville Ave. in Peoria) will be open to the public for
stargazing from dusk until 11 pm on Saturday (If the skies are cloudless).
Volunteers will be on hand to aid you in viewing the night sky through the
telescope, locating planets and constellations, and discovering wonders of the

The
Harmonie-Concordia Singers of the Peoria German American Society will host their
annual Bratfest, a traditional German Picnic, at Hickory Grove Park
(located at 12503 Hickory Grove Rd. in Dunlap) on Sunday from noon - 8 pm.
Admission and parking are free. In conjunction with the Bratfest, an import and
craft beer tasting will also be held from 1 - 5 pm with over 25 different beers
available to sample. Eddie Korosa and the Boys from Illinois will provide

The
Peoria Historical Society's Pettengill-Morron House Museum (located at 1212 Moss
Avenue in Peoria) will host "Miss Morron's World Travels Exhibit"
celebrating the travels of Miss Jean Morron on Sunday from 1 - 4 pm. The exhibit
features her 1957 four-and-half month around the world cruise including her
favorite United States destinations such as New York City, Boston and other
cities along the Eastern Seaboard plus Paris, London and other European cities.
