The Peoria Bach Festival continues with performances through Sunday celebrating the renowned composer. Featuring soloists Laraine Kaizer-Viazovtsev on violin, Alexander Viazovtsev on flute, Matthew Dirst on organ, John Orfe on piano and vocal soloists Kerry Walters, Denise Gamaz, James Doing and Saul Nache, all performances will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church (located at 135 NE Randolph Ave. in downtown Peoria). Holy Family Heritage Days will be held in the Holy Family Parking lot (located at the corners of Sterling Ave. and Gale Ave. in Peoria) from 4 - 10 pm today (Thursday) & Friday and from 11 am - 11 pm on Saturday. Smoke on the Mountain continues tonight (Thursday) at the Barn 2 Dinner Theatre in Goodfield and runs through Sunday. On Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays, doors open at 6 pm, buffet is at 6:30 pm, and the show is at 8 pm. On Sundays, doors & the buffet open at noon, and the show is at 1:30 pm. The Ronald W. Reagan Society of Eureka College will host a Reagan Memorial Ceremony marking the 11th anniversary of Reagan's death on Friday at 9:30 am in the Ronald Reagan Peace Garden. Peoria Historical Society's Grandview Drive & Springdale Cemetery Trolley Tour winds along Grandview Drive takes place every Friday in June beginning at 11 am leaving from Harp & Thistle (located at 4605 N Prospect Road in Peoria Heights). The "Abraham Lincoln and The Civil War Tour" runs every Saturday in June beginning at 11 am telling the story of Lincoln's visits to Peoria, the Civil War troops and Camp Peoria & Camp Lyon where they trained plus visits Springdale Cemetery to see the final resting place of Civil War veterans and drives by the GAR Hall, built in 1909, to hear the story of Joseph Greenhut, one of the Whiskey Barons who provided funding for the Hall .And the "Roll Out the Barrel Tour" takes you through the earliest sections of downtown Peoria and into the Warehouse District where you'll discover facts about distilling in Peoria running every Saturday in June beginning at 1:30 pm. The 3rd Annual Running with the Dogs 5k Run and 3K Walk will be held on Saturday at Junction City Shopping Center beginning at 8 am. This unique road race is one of the few opportunities for pet lovers to participate with their dogs. Registration is $25 per person and in addition to the road race, there will be pet-friendly vendors and various non-profits that support animal issues.
The Central Illinois Military Fest featuring WWII & the Vietnam Conflict will take place at Sommer Park (located at 6329 North Koerner Road in Edwards) from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday and from 10 am - 3 pm on Sunday. Relive the desperate days of Normandy, 1944, a World War II reenactment where allied and German troops will present authentic displays of gear, weapons, tanks and vehicles. Public battles each day will feature clashes between the opposing sides in the war that decided the fate of the world. New in 2015 is a Vietnam display, battle & tribute to these service personnel. The 18th Annual Saddle Up for St. Jude Trail Ride, lunch and auction will take place on Saturday at Jubilee State Park beginning at 10 am to benefit the kids of St. Jude. The Inaugural Sculpture Walk Peoria opens on Saturday at 3 pm in Peoria's Warehouse District with the unveiling of 15 large-scale sculptures along Washington Street between Liberty and Oak streets in Peoria. Admission to the event is free. Washington Street will be transformed into a pedestrian mall, and the public is invited to take the sculpture walk tour, meet the artists and enjoy activities for the young and young at heart. Children will receive special Sculpture Walk Peoria coloring pages and activities to take on the tour. You will be guided to each sculpture and hear the artists' insights and inspiration for their work plus choose your favorite sculpture by voting in the People's Choice Award.
