The 2015 Annual Arts In Education Spring Celebration continues every weekday through May 22 at the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza beginning at 11 am each day. Celebrating the talents of Pre-K through 12th grade students from seven Central Illinois counties, over 12,000 students perform, exhibit, and demonstrate their talents in the fine arts and applied arts during the six-week event. The 23rd Annual Letter Carriers' Food Drive will take place on Saturday: just set out any non-perishable canned and/or boxed foods well before your letter carrier's normal pick-up time. No special bags are needed. Paper is sturdy and tends to hold more food, while plastic holds up better if it gets wet. All food stays in the local community.
The Annual "Ride the Refuge" Day will take place at Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge (located at 19031 E County Road 1200th North in Havana) on Saturday beginning at 7am with a bird/nature hike and a bike ride beginning at 1 pm. Conducted in conjunction with International Migratory Bird Day, the auto tour route will be open from 9 am - 3 pm. Hands on activities will be provided at the headquarters building where you can make a bee box to help our pollinating friends as well as learn how bat boxes can help endangered species. Dodge Brawl, a national, co-ed, double-elimination dodge ball tournament, will take place on Saturday at the Peoria Civic Center Exhibit Hall with doors opening at 10:30 am.
