The Heart of Illinois Fair opens with a Preview Night tonight (Thursday) called "Ride & Return"from 5 - 10 pm at Expo Gardens (located at 1601 West Northmoor Road in Peoria). The Fair officially opens on Friday and runs through Saturday, July 18 with gates open from 10 am - 10 pm each day. Attractions include a carnival, live entertainment, a bags tournament, a kiddie tractor pull, a petting zoo, the Rising Star Singing Contest plus "Semis and Songs" in the motor sports arena featuring Nashville's Two Way Crossing will be performing immediately following the Semi Pulls on Wednesday night. Peoria Historical Society's River City Trolley Tour winds along Grandview Drive takes place every Friday in July beginning at 10:30 am leaving from Harp & Thistle (located at 4605 N Prospect Road in Peoria Heights). The "Naughty to Nice Tour" traces triumphs through time from the 1920's to the present; it entails stories of the city's gangster era, including driving by the site of Peoria's most notorious crime scene: The Bernie Shelton murder. Running on Saturdays in July beginning at 11 am, the tour leaves from Kelleher's Irish Pub, (located at 619 SW Water Street near State St. in downtown Peoria).
