The 49th Annual Morton Pumpkin Festival "Pumpkins of the Caribbean" will be held on the Jefferson School Grounds in downtown Morton tonight (Thursday), beginning at 11 am on Friday and at 6:30 am on Saturday and Sunday. Featuring a carnival, live music, the Miss Morton & Pumpkin Princess pageants, a parade on Saturday, the Pumpkin Idol competition, a craft fair plus lots of food including pumpkin specialties like pumpkin chili, baked beans, pasta salad, pumpkin ice cream, shakes, cheesecake, cookies and of course, pumpkin pie. Peoria Historical Society's River City Trolley Tour will wind along Grandview Drive every Friday in September beginning at 11 am leaving from Harp & Thistle (located at 4605 N Prospect Road in Peoria Heights).   Their "Naughty to Nice Tour" traces triumphs through time from the 1920's to the present featuring stories of the city's gangster era including driving by the site of Peoria's most notorious crime scene: The Bernie Shelton murder. The NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition will take place on Saturday at Logan Recreation Center beginning at 1 pm. The competition gives young football fans a chance to exhibit their skills and is open to boys and girls ages 6-15 with five separate age divisions (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15). The boys and girls compete against each other in punting, passing, and place kicking. The winners are determined based on distance and accuracy.
