The Greater Peoria

The 2016 Gerald M.
Brookhart Arts In Education Spring Celebration will be held every weekday through May 27 at the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza from 11 am - 1:30 pm each day. The 24th Annual Letter
Carriers' Food Drive will take place all day Saturday. Simply set out any non-perishable canned and/or boxed food well before your letter carrier's normal pick-up time. No special bags are needed. Paper is sturdy and tends to hold more food, while plastic holds up better if it gets wet. All food stays in the local community.
A Peoria State Hospital Cemetery
Walk will take place on Saturday beginning at the Alpha Park Library (located at 3527 South Airport Road in Bartonville) beginning at 9:30 am. Author Gary Lisman will give a brief overview of the state hospital cemeteries followed by a drive to the state hospital grounds for a guided tour while you drive your own vehicle. Wear practical footwear due to cemeteries that are located on slopes and can be slippery. Admission is free but is limited to only 30 people. To register, call

The Clyde West Fishing
Derby will take place at the Glen Oak Lagoon (located within Glen Oak Park off of Prospect Road in Peoria) on Saturday from 9 am - 3 pm. take place on Water Street in downtown Peoria on Saturday beginning at 10 am with the Mardi Gras 5K Race. The Street Party will run from 4 - 10 pm where Water Street will be transformed into the New Orleans French Quarter featuring street performers, live music, hurricanes and the Brewers beer trailer, food, entertainment, tarot card readers, caricature artists, artist vendors, demonstrations and lessons plus local restaurants offering authentic Cajun dishes and drinks.
