Learn about Peoria's rich history with the Peoria Historical Society's Grandview Drive & Springdale Cemetery Tour which includes spectacular views of the river from the world's most beautiful drive while seeing elegant homes of past and present Peorians running every Friday in August at 11:30 am. Their Naughty to Nice History Tour traces some of Peoria's colorful past during the 1920's, including the site of the Bernie Shelton murder running every Saturday in August at 11:30 am.  And their Monuments & Landmarks History Tour takes you to view outdoor sculptures in Peoria running every Saturday in August at 11:30 am. The Illinois State Fair opens on the Illinois State Fairgrounds with a preview night tonight (Thursday) beginning at 4 pm.  The Fair runs Friday through Sunday, August 19 from 7 am - midnight each day. Admission for the preview night is $5 for adults and $2 for senior citizens aged 60+ and children 12 and under are free. Normal admission beginning on Friday is $10 for adults (ages 13 - 59), free for children up to 12 and $3 for senior citizens (ages 60+). Parking per day is $5. There are special discount days also. The St. Phil's Fall Festival will take place at St. Philomena's Catholic Parish (located at 3300 N. Twelve Oaks Drive in Peoria) from 5 - 10 pm tonight (Thursday), from 5 - 11 pm on Friday and 12 - 11 pm on Saturday. The 3rd Annual Lip Sync Battle will be held at Mackinaw Valley Vineyard (located at 33633 State Route 9 in Mackinaw) tonight (Thursday) from 6 - 9 pm. Special Olympics Illinois Heartland/Area 6 and the Law Enforcement Torch Run are hosting the event which features Central Illinois celebrities who will compete against other local celebrities.  The audience will vote for their favorite acts with a donation. Peoria Collects will take place at the at the Peoria Art Guild (located at 203 Harrison St. in Peoria) with a reception on Friday from 6 - 10 pm and on Saturday from 9 am - 1 pm. Brett Maly, star of the History Channel's Pawn Stars and owner of Art Encounter Gallery in Las Vegas, will conduct valuations for a $50 entry fee which includes one valuation on Friday or $40 for Art Guild members. Maly will also deliver his lecture entitled "How to Valuate Fine Art" at the Friday event with a $25 fee for having a second piece evaluated. On Saturday, Maly will evaluate pieces for $30 each for pre-scheduled appointments. The 3rd Annual Greehut Memorial Whiskey Baron Run will begin at the GAR Hall (416 Hamilton Blvd. in Peoria) on Saturday beginning at 8 am. The course will take runners through important connections to African-American historic name and streets, as well as through homes built by the whiskey distillers, such as Captain Joseph Greenhut, who was the wealthiest whiskey baron in the U.S. and the benefactor of the GAR Hall. Live music will be performed at the finish line and participants of age will receive a celebratory shot of whiskey. All proceeds benefit the Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation. The Annual Hummingbird & Bee Pollinator Festival will take place at Sommer Park (located at 6329 N Koerner Rd. in Edwards) on Saturday from 9 am - 1 pm. Admission is free, however for a small donation to the Illinois Audubon land acquisition fund, participants can "adopt" a hummingbird.
