The 2018 Pekin Marigold Festival will be held at Mineral Springs Park in Pekin tonight (Thursday) through Sunday. This year's theme is "Cheers to Marigolds" featuring John Ratzenberger along with Art in the Park, Pekin's Next Top Dog contest, live entertainment, a sand volleyball tournament, the Run with the Saints 5k Run/Walk, Ritchhart's Mobile Zoo, a carnival, a parade, kids activities, food plus much more. Disenchanted will be presented by Eastlight Theatre (located within the East Peoria High School Auditorium) on Friday & Saturday at 7:30 pm and on Sunday at 2 pm. Forget the princesses you think you know. When these royal renegades toss off their tiaras, this hilariously subversive, not-for-the-kiddies musical cleverly reveals what really happened ‘ever after'. Ruth: The Musical will be presented at Five Points Performing Arts Center (located at 360 N Wilmor Rd. in Washington) at 7 pm on Friday and at 3 pm on Sunday.  Based upon the biblical story of Ruth, the concert-style show features local vocalists Courtney Huffman, Alison Meuth, and Steve Williams in the lead roles. Locally composed by David Getz who will accompany on piano with Phil Witzig, director of the Morton Community Chorus, will conduct the eight-voice choir. The Wizard of Oz will be presented at Peoria Players Theatre (located at 4300 N University St. in Peoria) Friday & Saturday at 7:30 pm and Saturday & Sunday at 2 pm. The first show of their 100th season, season tickets are available for $100. Learn about Peoria's rich history as the Peoria Historical Society's River City Tour winds along Grandview Drive leaving from Exhibit A Gallery (located at 4607 N Prospect Rd. in Peoria Heights) every Friday in September beginning at 11:30 am. The Elmwood Fall Festival will take place on the square in downtown Elmwood beginning at 5 pm tonight (Thursday) & Friday and at 10 am on Saturday. The 48-Hour Filmmakers Fest will take place on Friday beginning at 5 pm via the Peoria Riverfront Museum where the theme, a line of dialogue and an object that must be included in each submission will be emailed to all who have registered to participate. The Festival is a competition that gives aspiring filmmakers of all ages the chance to create a 3-5-minute movie in just 48 hours including writing, editing and sound design. Each film must be produced between Friday and Sunday. Once the films are submitted, they will be viewed by a panel of judges who will determine the overall winner and runner-up.
