Peoria Art Guild - July Events

Published: Mon, 07/01/19

July 2019
The Peoria Art Guild with the Central Illinois Chapter of the Links is pleased to present DREAM DRIVEN: an exhibit of Central Illinois African American Artists opening July 3, 2019 to July 20, 2019. Artists include Jonathon Romain, Nana Ekow, Trish Williams, Brenda Gentry, Quinton Thomas, Natalie Jackson O'Neil, Michael Adams & Rashid Reed. The exhibition is a diverse showcase of artists each with their own compelling expression. Painting, sculpture, photography and fiber art will be included. Inspiration comes from the surreal and ethnic background of Nana Ekow's Ghana heritage to the hardworking ethics of Gentry's laboring hands.

We will be open on First Friday July 5, 2019 from 5-9 but the opening celebration will be on the afternoon of July 7th from 4-7. We will be serving heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages. The afternoon will also include local performing artists Judy Page and Gary Moore and hands-on activities.

This is a FREE event and is open to the public.

The Monthlies - In the Evening
Steph Van Doren  July 11th at 5:30 PM

Join us every other month on the First Thursday in the evening at The Peoria Art Guild for a meeting of local visual artists and visual arts organizations with a common goal to enrich our city with the arts. The goal of these meetings is to let others know who you are, what you do and what help you need to accomplish your goal. Collaboration is key to success and a rising tide floats all boats so we hope you join us!

We are excited to have Steph Van Doren speak this month about her artist journey and why she chose to stay in Peoria IL. She will also talk about the new creative ways she is selling her art.

*** Note July is on the 11th because of Fourth of July!
We meet on opposite months in the morning at The Peoria Riverfront Museum at 5:30 PM

Attention all Central Illinois Artists:
Call for Artists for the Central Illinois
Ronald McDonald House

1. Create a portfolio of your work on the Café site HERE

2. Submit up to 10 works for consideration for no cost HERE

While the deadline isn’t till August, start the process right away because there is a limit to how many submissions will be accepted.

3. Jurors made up of local artists, employees of Farnsworth Group and Ronald McDonald House will choose work from this pool of work.

4. Chosen work will be offered to the public to choose what artwork they would like to underwrite via donations to Ronald McDonald House. For original works, the artist will receive their asking price and have their work displayed as a part of the art collection in the new Ronald McDonald House in Peoria. Work may also be considered for reproductions to be placed in the rooms. In this scenario, artists will be paid a percentage according to industry standards for rights to reproduce their work. Most of the work being considered is for the wall, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be sculptural or an installation. Some sculpture may be chosen for a garden outdoors.

5. If your work is chosen to be displayed at the Art Gala on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Peoria, an artist may display the actual art or if that is not possible, some facsimile can be displayed. Examples would be an installation piece with multiple components or a large work or sculpture.
