Phantom of the Opera opens the Central Illinois Ballet 2019-20 season at the Scottish Rite Cathedral (located at 400 NE Perry Ave. in Peoria) on Friday at 7 pm and at 2 pm and 7 pm on Saturday. Million Dollar Quartet continues at Peoria Players Theatre (located at 4300 N University St. in Peoria) tonight (Thursday) through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. On December 4, 1956, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley found themselves at Sun Records in Memphis and proceeded to record a legendary jam album. A Tony Award-winning musical, Million Dollar Quartet recounts that single night with the meaningful and humorous story of these men’s journeys through the music business. A venerable rock concert where audiences relive the glory days of early rock and roll, the score features major hits performed live onstage by legendary characters. Moon is now open at the Peoria Riverfront Museum and runs through November 10. It features a one-of-a-kind 13-foot (4-meter) diameter illuminated moon made especially for the museum by UK artist Luke Jerram. Lit from within, the giant moon displays exacting 120-dpi detailed imagery of the lunar surface created by NASA imagery. In addition, there are many interesting objects from NASA and space-related artifacts from NASA and the Apollo missions including a space suit, a piece of the Apollo 11 heat shield, a lunar meteorite plus an original 1700s Cassini map (lent from the Adler Planetarium).  Admission to the museum is free for members or $11 for adults, $10 for senior citizens aged 60+ and students with ID or $9 for youth aged 3 - 17. Vantage Points: Contemporary Photography from the Whitney Museum of American Art is on display at the Peoria Riverfront Museum through November 10. The first exhibition of its kind in the nation, it's a collaboration between the Peoria Riverfront Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art featuring photographs by 20 of the most influential artists of the 1970s through the 2000s, including Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sally Mann, Diane Arbus, Gregory Crewdson, William Eggleston, Nan Goldin and Richard Avedon. The Peoria Historical Society's Grandview Drive & Springdale Cemetery Tour takes you to view spectacular views of the river from the world’s most beautiful drive while viewing elegant homes of past and present Peorians then continues to the oldest chartered cemetery in the state of Illinois running every Friday in October beginning at 11:30 am. A way to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters, police, and EMS who selflessly gave their lives,each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter, police officer, or EMS by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.
