The 2019 Pekin Marigold Festival will be held at Mineral Springs Park in Pekin tonight (Thursday) through Sunday. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Marigold Heroes” and will feature the USA Patriots Amputee Softball Team who will play local police and firefighters as well as other community members on Saturday at 2 pm and 5 pm. Other activities include Art in the Park, live entertainment, a sand volleyball tournament, the Run with the Saints 5k Run/Walk, Ritchhart’s Mobile Zoo, a Lagoon lantern glow, a chalk walk competition, a carnival, parade, kids activities, food plus much more. Disney's Tarzan opens on Friday at Peoria Players Theater (located at 4300 N. University St. in Peoria) at 7:30 pm on Friday & Saturday, at 2 pm on Sunday and next Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and next Sunday at 2 pm. Based on Disney's epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend, Phil Collins and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. The Peoria Historical Society's River City Tour takes you through the area's earliest Native American roots to the present-day gems the city has to offer every Friday in September departing from Exhibit A Gallery (located at 4607 Prospect Rd in Peoria Heights) at 11:30 am. Their Art & Architecture Tour takes you through the fascinating sights downtown, in the Randolph-Roanoke area and in the Warehouse District running every Saturday at 11:30 am in September departing from the Caterpillar Visitor's Center. And the Roll Out the Barrel Tour takes you through the earliest sections of downtown Peoria and into the Warehouse District where you'll discover facts about distilling in Peoria running every Saturday in September at 1:30 pm from the Caterpillar Visitor's Center. Why We Should Abolish the Electoral College will be presented at Advanced Medical Transport (located at 1718 N Sterling Ave. in Peoria) tonight (Thursday) beginning at 6 pm. Hosted by the Greater Peoria League of Women Voters, Rosemary Heilemann and Bonnie McNeill will discuss how the Electoral College polarizes our electorate and artificially divides our nation into so-called "red" states and "blue" states and exaggerates our sense of being a nation divided.
